Consultation
Personal Consultation
A personal consultation is appropriate when parent's want to learn more about their child's current functioning, future skill needs, resources available to them, and how to better support their child.
Personal consultation includes a comprehensive evaluation of an individual's strengths and skill needs, treatment recommendations, lifestyle and environmental accommodations, effective teaching strategies, and additional resources.
Educational Consultation
An educational consultation is sought during the special education process to address parent concerns at school or to address educator concerns in the classroom.
During educational consultation, a behavior consultant observes classroom behavior and identifies barriers to student learning. The behavior consultant will conduct an evaluation including observation in the student's classroom, parent and teacher interviews, and a functional behavior assessment (FBA). The behavior consultant offers solutions such as behavior intervention plans, effective teaching strategies, classroom accommodations, and recommendations for goals to be addressed in the student's individualized education plan (IEP).
